Input vanuit de FEES over Europese richtlijn Machinery

INFORMATION TO FEES MEMBER SOCIETIES CONCERNING THE REVISION OF THE EU GUIDE FOR THE APPLICATION OF THE NEW MACHINERY REGULATION

During the past Machinery Expert Group meeting information was given on the set up of an Editorial Group in order to draft the Guide to application of the new Machinery Regulation (REGULATION (EU) 2023/1230 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL on 14 June 2023 on machinery and repealing Directive 2006/42/EC).

The Guide under preparation will replace the present guide : Guide to application of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC - Edition 2.2 – October 2019 (Update of 2nd Edition), available on Europa.

5 sub-groups will work in the following areas in order to prepare the future document:

  • Group A: overall fitness-check of the current Guide, in light of updated essential health and safety requirements (EHSRs), Substantial modification, Guidance on machinery-specific New Legislative Framework (“NLF”) provisions;
  • Group B : AI-powered safety functions, Software as a safety component;
  • Group C: Autonomous mobile machinery, Risk of contact with overhead powerlines, Seating (e.g. safety belt);
  • Group D: Cyber-safety
  • Group E: Digital instructions and information

The applications in the groups should be substantiated with a short motivation letter and CV, with the identification of areas of expertise and other relevant information, such as contact details.

The applications should in the first instance be sent to the secretary, foreseen to be under the responsibility of Mr Marcel Dutrieux, via e-mail address machineryeditorialgroup@gmail.com.

For FEES member societies, an important task is to revise and adapt to the new machinery regulation the document on ergonomics and essential health and safety requirements published in 2011, which is available on EUROPA website for machinery: “Guidance on the application of the essential health and safety requirements on ergonomics set out in section 1.1.6 of Annex I to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC”,

Such document explains the content of the Ergonomic principles of the above mentioned Guide.

Information to FEES members on EN 614-1 “Safety of machinery - Ergonomic design principles - Part 1: Terminology and general principles” referring to human factors and ergonomics requirements in the new machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230.

CEN/ TC 122/ WG2 “Ergonomic design principles” came up with a NWIP (new work item proposal) on EN 614-1 and :

  • is looking for support from as much as possible CEN member countries for the ballot on EN 614-1 and
  • is looking for experts interested in actively joining the process of EN 614-1 revision.

It would be great if the FEES community would be interested in the revision of EN 614-1. Interested experts should get in contact with their national standardisation bodies to vote in favour of the NWIP and ask to be send as expert in CEN/ TC 122/ WG2 “Ergonomic design principles” for participating on hands-on revision.
